About Melanie | Saratoga Springs Pet Photographer
Hi, I’m Melanie — the photographer behind Memorable Tails Photography, a professional pet photographer based in Saratoga Springs, New York. My work is rooted in a lifelong love of animals and more than 20 years of hands-on experience in veterinary medicine. I specialize in fine art pet photography that captures not just what your pet looks like, but who they are — their personality, their energy, and the bond you share with them.
A Life Dedicated to Animals
From a very young age, there was never any doubt that animals would be at the center of my life. As a child, my dreams evolved from becoming a zookeeper caring for elephants and tigers, to a veterinarian, to a marine biologist. That love ultimately led me to a career as a Veterinary Technician, where I’ve spent the last two decades caring for animals in need.
Working in veterinary medicine shaped not only my understanding of animal behavior, but also my deep respect for the relationships people share with their pets. I’ve witnessed firsthand how much they mean — as companions, comfort, family, and heart.
When Photography Became More Than a Hobby
Photography had always been a lifelong passion of mine, but during the COVID pandemic, it became something much deeper. As veterinary medicine changed dramatically — clinics overwhelmed, emergency hospitals closing, and professionals facing compassion fatigue at unprecedented levels — I felt a growing need to help in a different way.
Through photography, I found a new path to support both humans and animals. Creating images that honored the human–animal bond became a source of healing, connection, and meaning — not just for my clients, but for me as well.
Artwork That Makes You Smile Every Day
I’m known for being adept at capturing the soul of my subjects — those fleeting expressions and familiar quirks that make your pet your pet. My goal is to create custom pet portraits that become meaningful artwork in your home.
The kind of art you walk past every day and smile.
You smile at the memories made with your best friend.
You smile at the time you’re sharing — and the time you’ve shared.
You smile because that love still lives on your wall.
Outside the Studio
When I’m not behind the camera or working in the veterinary field, you’ll usually find me outdoors — kayaking, hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing depending on the season. I’m also a musician and enjoy playing my saxophone with various groups throughout the community.
And, of course, I’m never far from my own fur babies — the ones who remind me every day why this work matters so much.
I know all too well that we never get enough time with them. That’s why I strive to capture the true personality and spirit of every animal in front of my camera — your best friend, your family member, your furry companion, your little pain in the butt… your heart.
Let’s create something meaningful together — today.
